Open Spaces
The Parish Council owns and operates
the recreation ground and Great Down Park in Long Lane. The total
area is around 14 acres. The recreation ground has a football pitch,
astra turf cricket wicket, and recently refurbished sports pavilion.
The children's play area here has undergone a major rebuild, funded
largely by developer's contributions. Most recently, a tarmac
footpath has been laid to the play area from the pedestrian entrance
near the tennis courts. Great Down Park at the southern end of Long
Lane is maintained informally and includes a wild flower meadow with
perimeter dog walk route and various hedgerows and shrubberies to
benefit wildlife. Within the park
are the two parish cemeteries and a memorial wall on which local
residents may mount plaques in memory of their ancestors (please
contact the office for details). There is a car park for the
cemetery entered from School Road near the Church Lane junction, and
a larger car park on Long Lane which is well used by school traffic.
Bottle recycling skips are located here.
Allotments
The parish council operates two allotment sites. The
top allotment is at Hungerford, opposite the Fox & Hounds public
house. The bottom allotment is at the lower end of Hungerford. Details from the office. There is a small pocket park at
the junction of Kew Lane and Hungerford with a bench seat.
Pavilion
The sports pavilion on the recreation ground has home and away
changing rooms and is available to be used for
pre-booked sports events. An extension has been built to provide
storage for the parish council's grass cutting machinery. Most
recently, new non-slip flooring has been laid in the public areas of the
pavilion. These projects have been funded
from Eastleigh Borough Council's Community Investment Programme.
Other maintained areas
The Parish
Council has a maintenance agreement to look after the grass and
hedge cutting
at St Leonards new churchyard. We also perform informal maintenance
at the Greyladyes mausoleum site on Church Lane.
